Tours and Activities - Slovakia

Western Slovakia is one of the most visited regions in Slovakia, as it has a border with the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, with it’s picturesque historical city centre is also located in this part of Slovakia. The main natural attractions are the Small Carpathian Mountains and the Danube, Morava and Vah rivers. The other main tourist destinations are the city of Trnava (also called the Slovak Rome), Trencin (with Trencin Castle) and Nitra (the oldest city in Slovakia) as well as the picturesque Skalica, wine cities Modra, Pezinok, Sv. Jur and the world famous thermal city Piestany. It´s a region of Castles and Manors, with historical reenactments in Bratislava Castle, Devin Castle, the Red Stone Castle, Smolenice Castle, Cachtice, Beckov, Trencin and Bojnice Castles. The region along the Danube River offers thermal aquaparks and other water-based activities. This part of Slovakia has excellent gastronomy and produces internationally awarded wines.

Central Slovakia is a country of Mountains, Valleys and historical towns. The Veľka (Big) and Mala (Small) Fatras, also called the Janosik region (after the Slovak version of Robin Hood), Liptov  bordered by the Western and Low Tatras, the Demänovska Valley with natural caves and the Tatralandia and  Bešeňová aquaparks. The region along the Hron River, in the middle of Kremnicke and Štiavnicke Mountains and the mining cities of Kremnica and Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO), where the nearby Sv. Anton aristocratic manor and the wooden church of Hronsek (UNESCO) are situated. The heart of Slovakia, the city of Banska Bystrica and it’s nearby Pilgrimage point Staré Hory, the mining village Špania Dolina and forest railways in Čierny Balog. For water lovers, the region offers a unique attraction – rafting on the Váh and Hron rivers. The Orava region is dominated by Orava Castle with a beautiful exhibition of ancient feudal life and the Orava dam. The Slovak Traditional Village life is represented in an open air museum in Vlkolínec (UNESCO), and in Martin, Zuberec and Pribylina.

In the Eastern section of Slovakia, the most attractive location is Spiš and it’s surroundings with the historical cities Levoča, Kežmarok, Spišská Sobota, Spišská Kapitula and the nearby  Spiš Castle which has the largest Castle area in Central Europe (UNESCO).  The region of Spis is dominated by the High Tatra Mountains, including the highest Peak in the Carpathians,  Gerlachovský Peak (2655 m), and Lomnický peak with a cable car and astronomic observatory. The second largest Slovak city Košice, with St. Elisabeth a beautiful gothic cathedral, is situated in this area. In the mountains of Slovak kras natural caves listed in the UNESCO world heritage can be found, e.g. Domica, Ochtiná and others and also the picturesque Castle Krásna Hôrka and the romantic aristocratic manor Betliar. To the south of Kosice it is worth to visit the unique wine region of Tokay with its special wines. To the north, in the regions of Šariš and Zemplín can be found the thermal city Bardejov,  lots of wooden churches and the Poloniny Nature Reserve (UNESCO).  For modern art lovers there is also a museum and gallery of Andy Warhol, who was born in this region.
