Central Slovakia
Central Slovakia is a country of Mountains, Valleys and historical towns. The Veľka (Big) and Mala (Small) Fatras, also called the Janosik region (after the Slovak version of Robin Hood), Liptov bordered by the Western and Low Tatras, the Demänovska Valley with natural caves and the Tatralandia and Bešeňová aquaparks. The region along the Hron River, in the middle of Kremnicke and Štiavnicke Mountains and the mining cities of Kremnica and Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO), where the nearby Sv. Anton aristocratic manor and the wooden church of Hronsek (UNESCO) are situated. The heart of Slovakia, the city of Banska Bystrica and it’s nearby Pilgrimage point Staré Hory, the mining village Špania Dolina and forest railways in Čierny Balog. For water lovers, the region offers a unique attraction – rafting on the Váh and Hron rivers. The Orava region is dominated by Orava Castle with a beautiful exhibition of ancient feudal life and the Orava dam. The Slovak Traditional Village life is represented in an open air museum in Vlkolínec (UNESCO), and in Martin, Zuberec and Pribylina.
